Mother, Flower
Mother, Flower (2019), is a story of a woman who is struggling after a few months of delivering her first baby. Soo, the protagonist, is forced to leave her work because of her depression and having a hard time to adjust herself as a new mom to her newborn child. Because of my own inner fear as a woman, I started to interview women who suffered from Postpartum depression. During the four years of research, I've discovered that only 80% of new moms would have a natural "mother's love", which is forcefully expected to new moms. Furthermore, I wanted to talk about the “mommy guilt” that is tied to the social expectation that new moms have to face through my film.
