Non-stop action. Murder. Sex. Beautiful women. A bad-ass antihero. Mystery. All these elements combine to make the ultimate Asian-American neo-noir in director David Ren’s (Shanghai Kiss) second feature film, The Girl from the Naked Eye. Jake (Jason Yee) is an ex-gambler trying to pay off a large debt. He takes a job at a seedy strip club chauffeuring call girls, ensuring their protection, and making sure they get paid. Seemingly stuck in this life forever, Jake’s life changes when he meets Sandy (Samantha Streets), an innocent but misguided runaway working at the Naked Eye.
Jake becomes her driver, and together they form an unlikely bond and give each other the will to strive for a better life. When Sandy is suddenly found murdered, Jake begins a hunt for her killer. The search for the truth will take him through the grittiest areas of town, forcing him to face off against the ringleader of the prostitution ring, Sandy’s former clients, and a violent cop on his trail. Will Jake be able to not only survive the night, but also bring Sandy’s killer to justice?
Don’t miss this stylized thriller, which features Ron Yuan (Fast & Furious), who also serves as the action director. Be sure to look out for appearances by Dominique Swain (Alpha Dog) and Sasha Grey (Entourage).
