Asian Pacific American Film, along with other participating organizations across the country, are collaborating with ABC Entertainment Television Group's Talent Development and Community Initiative Programs aimed at diversifying the creative arts community.

Money, Mentors.... and a Workshop

The ABC New Talent Development Scholarship Program is reaching out to qualified candidates of diverse backgrounds. Ten winners will be awarded $20,000 each, assigned a mentor, and given the opportunity to take part in a 3-day workshop in Los Angeles at ABC Entertainment and Disney Studios.

We're a Sponsor, and We Want You to Enter

You can only enter through a sponsoring organization, such as APA Film. Entries can be submitted in either the screenplay, the video, or the TV script category. Submissions should be an original idea, or a first draft with a budget, or a work-in-progress with a budget. No completed works will be accepted.

The scholarships or grants are directed towards individuals who are in the early stages of their careers and who would show substantial growth with the receipt of a scholarship/grant. You don't have to live in the Washington, DC area to enter and there are no age restrictions.

Competition Process and the Deadline

Scholarships and grants are provided to those applicants who show promise, strength of ideas, and creativity in their respective media.

From all of the entries we receive, APA Film will select two nominees. We will then submit our nominees to ABC for entry in the national competition. ABC will then select two winners from each city. The ABC New Talent Program Committee will be comprised of industry representatives and executives of ABC and the Walt Disney Company. The committee will review submitted applications in the spring of 2003. Notification begins June 2003 and the mentorship program begins in the fall of 2003.

APA Film is asking applicants to submit: 1) a treatment of his/her project and 2) a 10-page script sample, if applicable, or 3) a 10-minute work sample (VHS format)

All entries must be postmarked by January 31, 2003. Our selection committee will notify all candidates who the two APA Film nominees are shortly thereafter.
