APA FILM TO HOST OSCAR PARTY IN SUPPORT OF ANG LEE'S ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATIONS

Lee may be first person of Asian descent in Academy's history to win best directing

January 31, 2005 - APA Film will host a party in support of film director Ang Lee as he competes for the Oscar in Best Directing at the 78th Annual Academy Awards on March 5, 2006, at Bar Rouge near Dupont Circle. If selected, Lee would be the first person of Asian descent in Oscar history to receive the award for direction of a non-foreign language film.

Attendees are invited to watch the live broadcast at Bar Rouge, 1315 16th Street NW, from 8pm EST until its conclusion and to sign up to volunteer for the 2006 DC Asian Pacific American Film Festival while there. Guests will enjoy complimentary food and drinks, and have the chance to win special prizes throughout the night.

Lee was nominated for Best Director of a motion picture for the film Brokeback Mountain. Brokeback Mountain received a total of eight nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor. Lee has directed several award winning films including Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, for which he was nominated for Best Director at the 2001 Oscars. His filmography ranges from independent Asian American features such as The Wedding Banquet to a popular adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility.
