APA Film Announces the 2005 ABC Talent Development Scholarship Program Finalists

DC Asian Pacific American Film is proud to announce the nomination of its two finalists in the 5th Annual ABC and The Walt Disney Studios Talent Development Scholarship Program.

Kevin Lee, for his continued development of his screenplay, PARADISE CITY, a feature film about a Chinese American family in San Francisco during the Persian Gulf War.

Grace Rowe, for continued production in turning her award-winning short AMERICAN SEOUL (Official Selection, 2004 DC Asian Pacific American Film Festival) into a feature length film.

The Talent Development Scholarship Program was developed by ABC to discover and nurture writing, filmmaking, and directing talent from diverse backgrounds. As one of the non-profit organizations chosen to partner with ABC, APA Film conducts an annual search to sponsor two finalists for submission in a nationwide competition. The program distributes funds in the form of a $20,000 grant to finance creative projects, pairs the recipients with mentors from ABC, and offers workshops designed to assist ethnically diverse individuals pursue their careers in the entertainment industry.

In 2004, one of APA Film’s finalists, Franklin Jin Rho was chosen as a grant recipient. Mr. Rho, a native of Virginia and a graduate of the American Film Institute, was selected by ABC to continue work on “Homecoming”, a proposed feature film about a young Korean American man who travels back to Korea to find his missing father. The other finalist from 2004, Georgia Lee, recently won the NY, NY Best Narrative Feature Award at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival for her screenplay RED DOORS.

In 2002, APA Film sponsored Vivian Umino, an ABC Talent Development Scholarship grant recipient for her feature-length screenplay, “The Master Painter”.
