OCTOBER 7, 2002 ROMEO CANDIDO AND OTHER LOCAL MUSICIANS TO PERFORM AT THE 2002 APA
FILM AND MUSIC FESTIVAL
Washington, D.C. - As part of the 2002 DC Asian Pacific
American Film and Music Festival, Romeo Candido will
perform his multimedia program, "The Romeo Candido
Karaoke Show" on October 14, 2002. Also performing is
Grace Chung, jazz singer, and her accompanying band.
The event will begin at 8pm and feature opening acts
from local groups girl @ th bus stop and Inqilab. The
hosting venue is HR-57 Center for the Preservation of
Jazz and Blues, 1610 14th St., Washington, DC 20009.
Donations of $5 will be collected at the door.
About the artists:
Romeo Candido is a Canadian born Filipino filmmaker,
composer, musician, and producer. Through years of
hard work and dedication, he became the musical
director of the Harana Filipino Dance Company, and
studied various forms of traditional Filipino music
from the renowned Barangay cultural troupe based in
the Philippines. His latest film, "Lolo's Child" is
the featured opening selection of the 2002 DC APA Film
and Music Festival. Previous to his work on "Lolo's
Child", Romeo performed with the Canadian Company of
Miss Saigon, recorded and released a song with the R&B
group KUYA, and has written a book entitled "Ugly
Flower", which was commissioned by OISE to bring
awareness to the problem of domestic violence against
women and children.
