Saturday, Sep 29th, 2007 - 11:00 AM

Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote)

Cost: FREE

Join award-winning film director Eric Byler (Tre, Charlotte Sometimes, Americanese) and grassroots coalition builder Annabel Park for an in-depth workshop on YouTube videography and the growing effectiveness of Asian Pacific American grassroots political activism. A year ago, during the mid-term congressional campaign season, Byler and Park founded a multicultural coalition called "Real Virginians For Webb" to unite Virginia's communities of color against the use of prejudice as a political platform. This spring and summer, Byler's YouTube videos aided Park in leading the 121 Coalition, which passed the "Comfort Woman" resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives by a unanimous vote. Byler will provide step-by-step instructions on shooting and posting videos onto YouTube, and Park will speak about how and why the APiA community is uniquely suited to lead and participate in the democratic process.
