When filmmaker Grace Lee moved from Columbia, Missouri to Los Angeles, California, she was stunned to find that hundreds of Asian American women shared her name. This realization drove this particular Grace Lee to seek out these identically named women. Through a clever internet survey and numerous interviews, she found many of these Grace Lees fit neatly into a generic mold for super Asian overachievers. But as she looked deeper, she saw that several of her newly found sisters were far more interesting then she would ever have imagined.

A hilarious exploration of the question of whether one’s name can determine the type of person one will become, THE GRACE LEE PROJECT contrasts Asian American model minority stereotypes with the real-life experiences of Grace Lees throughout the world.
